Mauna Kea is a grandmother volcano, and a sacred mountain, a symbol of peace and aloha located in the centre of the Big Island of Hawai’i. Scientists are trying to put a 13th telescope on it, the biggest telescope ever made on earth. It would be the tallest building on the island, and would encroach on many sacred areas on the mountain. The Indigenous people of Hawai’i in their protests were saying ‘No More’.

This image, the hands holding the heart that is the volcano, are a symbol the land protectors used during their ‘Protect Mauna Kea’ movement, and they insisted on being turned into a stencil.
