Bear as Master Healer

When Reconciliation in Action came to the Downtown Eastside, Bear asked to come along and be part of the healing.

This stencil was made for and by the Reconciliation In Action community in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.

This bear is a silhouette of a black bear and is filled with the local landscape of oceans, mountains, creeks and ravens, with a lone wolf in it, as well as a kinship.

The Creative Process

Bear is a master healer and when we were invited to hang flags at the Hastings Community Centre in 2016, Bear really wanted to come through and be with the kids and the folks of this community. Bear wanted to go home with people as a flag, be on people’s shirts, anything, any way.

Birth: 2016 - Downtown Eastside RIA was an event where different community groups were brought together to show what different organizations were doing in their communities.
